Home sweet home birth - Colorado Birth Photography

I usually write a little something here from my perspective, but of course the perspective from the mom herself is 1000x better. . .

”Early Sunday morning, October 21st, I crept into bed hoping to get some sleep. I had been up most of the night with a very persistent chest cough and intense back pain from some dislocated ribs that started about half-way through my pregnancy. The message I received Saturday evening temporarily helped with the pain, but it came back with a vengeance that night. I was able to get probably a couple of hours of sleep until I started to take notice of the contractions I had been previously trying to ignore. I started timing them around 8:30 and realized they were coming every 2 to 3 minutes. I woke Loren up and told him we should probably plan on staying home from church. Thinking it might be another false alarm like I had last Monday, I waited about half an hour to call Kim, my midwife. When I told her about the contractions and bloody show I was having, she said she would head over. She was over within an hour. Loren got busy filling up the birth pool while I labored on the exercise ball. Contractions were definitely picking up in intensity and required all my attention to get through them. I was relieved when I could climb into the birth pool around 11:00. From there, it was just a matter of trying to breathe and relax through contractions. I allowed my body to push her head out without any strained pushing on my part. A couple of pushes and her shoulders and body were out! No tearing. She was born at 11:57, approximately 3 1/2 hours after I started timing contractions. Loren scooped her up and placed her on my chest. Oh the relief and joy of holding the babe you have carried for 9 months and labored so intensely for in your arms! The kids were able to watch the birth of their little sister. It was such a sweet experience. It was an answer to our prayers that Loren was at home when I went into labor and I didn’t have to worry about him rushing home from work in Denver. My midwife took the best care of us. She was absolutely amazing!”
